Thai Airways this week announced plans to increase capacity on its direct services to India, with new frequencies to Delhi and Mumbai doubling the capacity that the carrier currently flies.

Currently there are seven services a week, with this new introduction, this will move to 14 a week from the 1st of February.

Additionally the carrier is considering increasing capacity to Munich, Milan, Seoul, Guangzhou and Fukuoka.  Domestically, THAI has increased capacity to Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani.

In a preliminary report, the carrier adds, “As a result of airports closure in November and December 2008, THAI had to reduce around 11% of its flight frequencies from normal schedule due to the decline in the number of passengers on many routes.

“However, the number of passenger in January has shown to be well on the rise.”

The fresh capacity will be good news for those travelling in and out of India, due to Singapore recently announcing capacity cuts in Hyderabad, New Delhi and Mumbai.
